The latest from Kyle Goon

Gunnar Henderson homered during Sunday’s win over the Angels, but he has not reached his All-Star heights this season.
Kyle Goon: We’re only getting glimpses of the Orioles we expect. That’s everyone’s problem, especially coaches.
Wins like Sunday's 7-3 series clincher against the Angels have come too rarely. If they can be aggressive and opportunistic on offense, why can't they do it more often?
Kyle Gibson allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings Saturday night against the Angels.
With a poor start and quiet bats, the Orioles’ latest loss to the Angels is painfully formulaic
Gibson gave up five runs in his third straight ugly start, and the Orioles failed to summon a response.
Brandon Hyde’s teams have a .463 winning percentage in seven seasons.
As fans grumble about Brandon Hyde, the Orioles manager is worried about a turnaround — not his job
After a 14-23 start, the veteran skipper said he isn't happy with how the team has played but doesn't worry about being fired. GM Mike Elias’ backing “means a lot,” he said Saturday in Anaheim.
Tomoyuki Sugano allowed one run on three hits in 7 1/3 innings Friday night against the Angels.
Tomoyuki Sugano’s great start helps Orioles bust 5-game slide against Angels
The Orioles could have hardly asked for more from Sugano, who threw 92 pitches and went deeper than any other O’s starter this year.
General manager Mike Elias took accountability for the Orioles’ dreadful start to the season, but that is just a small step toward fixing the problem.
Kyle Goon: Owning the Orioles’ ugly start isn’t enough. Mike Elias needs to try to save the season.
Acknowledging this shortcoming is only a tiptoe toward redemption for Elias and this front office, who need to amp up their ambition before it's too late.
Baltimore Ravens' Justin Tucker watches from the sidelines during the first half of a preseason NFL football game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, in Baltimore.
Kyle Goon: The Ravens’ backwards explanation for cutting Justin Tucker only shows they can’t be trusted
The Ravens behave like they’re above reproach. That’s simply not good enough.

The Ravens’ long wait for the NFL draft is finally over. What happens next?
Tai Felton caught 172 passes for 2,207 yards and 17 touchdowns in 46 games at Maryland.
Kyle Goon: Where is the love for the Terps’ Tai Felton? He shows a blind spot in the NFL draft
In one of the most scrutinized processes in sports, somehow it feels as if NFL talent evaluators are overlooking the talented Maryland player who was one of the most productive receivers in the country last year.
It’s hard to imagine subscribing to cable TV lasting much longer after MASN created a direct-to-consumer option for both of its channels.
Kyle Goon: MASN finally has a direct-to-consumer plan for Orioles fans. Thank goodness.
At long last, the Orioles and the Nationals will have a direct-to-consumer viewing option outside of cable. It's MASN’s first big step toward a brighter future and hopefully one of many.
The announcement of the new streaming package comes as the Orioles and Nationals prepare to begin a series Tuesday in Washington.
MASN to offer direct-to-consumer package starting Monday. As in right now.
The Orioles and Nationals are two of the final teams to offer a streaming option for people who do not subscribe to cable.

Kyle Goon: Please, Steelers, sign Aaron Rodgers. The results would be hilarious.
The Steelers are so desperate for a quarterback that they might sign Rodgers. It would end in pain for the team — and hilarity for everyone else.
Charlie Morton surrendered five earned runs in five innings pitched against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night.
Kyle Goon: Instead of an ace, the Orioles bought depth. That approach is hurting them.
The Orioles struck out on Corbin Burnes but, instead of grabbing up another ace, they spent their free agency on uninspiring depth pieces. The shortcomings of that strategy show up especially when Baltimore needs to rely on that depth to win.

Kyle Goon: The fate of Terps football — and much more — is riding on freshman Malik Washington
Few programs have as much riding on a freshman’s success as the Terps.
A detail view while two fencers practice at the Fencing Hall ahead of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Kyle Goon: A fencer turned a personal choice into a political crusade — and endangered transgender people everywhere
Anyone can decide not to compete in a sport for any reason. But turning it into political crusade only serves to threaten already persecuted transgender people.
New Maryland men's basketball head coach Buzz Williams, center, poses for a photographers with Colleen Sorem, interim director of athletics, left, and Dr. Darryll J. Pines, University of Maryland president, right.
Kyle Goon: In Buzz Williams’ intro, the Terps tried to show a unified front. It wasn’t convincing.
A day of photo ops and smiles can't conceal some of the department's uncertainty with a new basketball coach that has a few question marks.
Buzz Williams, named new Terps coach Tuesday, has been to the Sweet 16 only once in the last decade.
Kyle Goon: Hiring Buzz Williams will help the Terps tread water. Is that really what Maryland wants?
Buzz Williams is a solid hire. And that’s what makes it so uninspiring.

Kyle Goon: ‘I’m from Baltimore’ might be the only lasting legacy of the Terps’ season. That’s good enough.
