The Baltimore County Fire Department on Friday rescued a worker trapped waist-deep in a sand hopper elevated 75 feet.
Fire crews were called to Atlantic Concrete in Cockeysville just before 1 p.m., Baltimore County Fire Department spokesperson Travis Francis said in an email. It took the technical rescue teams over two hours to free the man from the sand before lowering him to waiting medical units.
Authorities said a medivac was requested to the scene.
A sand hopper is an industrial container often used in construction industries to store, transport or dispense materials. Atlantic Concrete didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The man’s entrapment spurred response from Baltimore County Career and Volunteer Technical Rescue Specialist, Maryland State Police Aviation, Shock Trauma Center GO-Team and Baltimore City Fire Department Technical Rescue teams.
Representatives of the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Department were also on the scene, spokesperson Dinah Winnick said.
