Baltimore County firefighters responded to dwelling fires in Dundalk and Essex on Friday night.

A two-alarm fire in the 1000 block of Foxcroft Lane in Essex hospitalized four people — one of whom has life-threatening injuries — and spread to other homes, fire personnel said.

A fire sparked at a rowhome in the 1000 block of Foxtrot Lane just before 7 p.m., Captain Len Stewart said at a news conference. Three family members escaped the first home, and Stewart said fire personnel rescued a young child.

Fire engulfed the first and second floors of the first home and spread to the adjacent house, damaging its exterior, Stewart said. Following the fire, the brick facades of the homes were marred by black smoke and the front windows were shattered.

Another two-alarm blaze sparked at a high-rise apartment building in the 100 block of Center Place in Dundalk, Baltimore County Fire Department officials said on social media.

Just five miles away, a fire burned from the third floor of a senior living facility, requiring additional resources, Deputy Fire Chief Rob Kamp said at a news conference. Three people had to be transported to a hospital for minor injuries, Kamp said.

Center Place Senior Apartment Homes is a nine-story, 160-unit independent living facility for people 62 and older. Kamp said he believes about 300 people live there and at least 100 were displaced by Friday’s fire. The Baltimore County Office of Emergency Management, the property’s management and other community partners are helping with relocation, Kamp said.

The building sustained significant water damage, including a lobby that flooded and roof damage from the fire department’s hoses and the sprinklers that were set off, Kamp said.

The property is owned by Silver Tree Residential, an affordable housing development company based in Memphis, Tennessee, that could not immediately be reached for comment Friday evening.

Having two two-alarm fires happening simultaneously is a rarity, Kamp said, and the Baltimore County Fire Department leaned on support from Anne Arundel and Baltimore City. Both fires are under control.
