Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s injury misfortune took another turn Thursday, when he missed practice because of an ankle injury.
Jackson was limited at practice Wednesday, the team’s first open session since last Thursday’s 32-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens (6-6) face the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6) on Sunday in a game with massive AFC North title implications.
Over the past month, Jackson has also missed practices because of knee and toe injuries. He indicated last week that not all of his injuries have subsided, though he wasn’t listed with an ankle injury before the loss to Cincinnati.
Jackson has not been made available to reporters, but offensive coordinator Todd Monken said after practice Thursday that he expects him to play Sunday in Baltimore. Coach John Harbaugh is expected to address reporters after Friday’s practice.
“I just give him a lot of credit,” Monken said of Jackson. “He’s battling each week, trying to get healthy enough to be able to play every Sunday. That’s what I see out of him. I see a guy that’s battling little, nagging injuries, things that are stopping him from being able to get out there every day in practice.”
Harbaugh did not indicate after practice Wednesday that Jackson had reinjured his ankle, an ailment that first surfaced on the Ravens’ injury report after the Week 11 win over the Cleveland Browns.
“It’s always good to get a couple days’ rest [after Thursday’s loss] — probably for everybody," Harbaugh said. “So that’s a positive, in that sense. ... It’s good to have [Jackson] out there doing what he did today. It’s a plus.”
Jackson showed improved mobility last week against Cincinnati but struggled with his accuracy and ball security. He finished 17-for-32 for 246 yards and an interception and rushed six times for 27 yards. He also fumbled twice.
If Jackson cannot play Sunday, backup Tyler Huntley would be expected to start. He helped lead the Ravens to a 30-16 win over the Chicago Bears in October, passing for 186 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 53 yards.
Defensive lineman Travis Jones, a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, was also missing Thursday because of personal reasons.
Four other Ravens were limited: wide receivers Rashod Bateman (ankle) and Devontez Walker (groin), cornerback Nate Wiggins (foot) and safety Ar’Darius Washington (Achilles tendon). Bateman and Walker were full participants Wednesday.
